Three Children Die After Playing Inside Of Unplugged Freezer

Three young children died after they became trapped inside of an unplugged freezer while playing in their yard in Florida. The children, who were one, four, and six years old, were being supervised by a woman, but when she went inside to use the bathroom, the kids started playing inside the chest freezer.

While they were playing, the lid slammed shut and "an after-market hasp" prevented them from opening the freezer, the Suwannee County Sheriff's Office explained in a Facebook post.

When the woman came back outside, she could not find the three children and started desperately searching the property. When the children were discovered, they were not breathing and the woman attempted to revive them. Paramedics rushed the kids to the hospital where they were pronounced dead.

Authorities said they believe the incident was a tragic accident but are continuing their investigation and have notified the Florida Department of Children and Families about the case.

"Words can't describe... (this) tragedy, how heartbroken I am," Suwannee County Sheriff Sam St. John said. "Any time you deal with children and something like this and when they die from something like this nature, it just tugs at your heartstrings. Words can’t describe this and the only thing we can do is go forward."
