Doctored Pelosi Video Spreading Across Social Media

Speaker Nancy Pelosi Holds Her Weekly Press Conference

A video that was altered to make House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) appear as if she were drunk, has been making its way around the social media channels.

The faked video used footage from remarks Pelosi delivered at the Center for American Progress Ideas Conference in which she accused President Donald Trump of a cover-up and committing impeachable offenses by refusing to cooperate with congressional investigations. The footage was slowed to about 75 percent of its original speed, according to The Washington Post, which first reported on the video. The pitch of Pelosi's voice was also altered to make it better resemble Pelosi's actual voice.

The video has been viewed more than 2.4 million times and shared more than 47,000 since it was posted Wednesday morning. The video was also uploaded to YouTube and Twitter, but those were deleted by the online social media platforms.

Pelosi and Trump have gone back and forth the last few days as calls for beginning impeachment proceedings against President Trump have grown louder in the Democratic conference. After a meeting with the House Caucus Thursday morning, Pelosi accused the president of engaging in a 'cover-up' as his administration continues to block investigations by House committees.

"We do believe that it’s important to follow the facts. We believe that no one is above the law, including the president of the United States. And we believe that the president of the United States is engaged in a cover-up," Pelosi said after a closed-door caucus meeting with House Democrats.

Trump addressed Pelosi's comments in an impromptu press conference held in the Rose Garden at the White House, saying he doesn't "do cover-ups."

"I came here to do a on infrastructure meeting with Democrats — not really thinking that they wanted to do infrastructure or anything else other than investigate. And I just saw that Nancy Pelosi, just before our meeting made a statement that we believe that 'the President of the United States is engaged in a cover-up.' It turns out I'm the most — I think most of you would agree to this — I'm the most transparent president probably in the history of this country."

Speaker Pelosi and Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) were scheduled to meet with Trump yesterday about a possible infrastructure bill, but that meeting quickly fell apart when the president walked out after three minutes.
