After giving it some thought, Parker McCollum realized that his favorite Fourth of July memories might not have been the safest ones.

The “To Be Loved By You” singer reflected on his July 4 celebrations in a statement shared by his record label. Growing up in Texas, McCollum recalled shooting off fireworks:

“My favorite Fourth of July memories growing up are actually kind of dangerous now that I think about it, but we used to have fireworks wars where we’d shoot like roman candles and bottle rockets. We’d always go to my grandma’s house, pop fireworks and we’d end up shooting ’em at each other and having wars; no eye protection, no nothing, just shooting bottle rockets at each other’s faces. But it was so fun; some of the best days of my life.”

McCollum has previously shared memories from growing up in the Lone Star State, including recalling his dad as “a real-life superhero” and explaining that his grandpa was one of the people who inspired him to pursue country music: “Not sure I would have ever started singing had I not heard Amarillo By Morning (by George Strait) in my grandpas truck all those years ago.”

Earlier this year, McCollum released his latest full-length record, a highly-anticipated collection titled Never Enough. The 15-track album includes highlights like “Stoned,” “Handle On You,” “Speed,” “Burn It Down,” “I Ain’t Going Nowhere” and others that quickly became fan-favorites. McCollum said at the time that there are “some seriously personal songs on this record and I think some of my best songwriting. It's very honest, very authentic, very genuine, and I hope that comes across in every song.”
