At least seven people were killed and three others injured in New Hampshire Friday evening after a pickup truck collided with them while going in the opposite direction, state police said.
The collision on Route 2 was first reported at around 6:30 p.m. in Randolph, New Hampshire State Police Capt. Chris Vetter said Friday.
The accident occurred while a 2016 Dodge 2500 pickup truck was traveling west on Route 2 while the motorcyclists were traveling east, police said. Seven people were killed and three others were taken to a local hospital for unspecified injuries.
"Route 2 is closed for the foreseeable future. The scene is pretty large and there's a lot of work to be done," Vetter said. "I don't know that I have ever seen a crash with this much loss of life. It was a pretty significant accident."
New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu said he and his wife were "deeply saddened" to hear of the tragic accident in Randolph.
"Valerie & I are deeply saddened to hear of the tragic motor accident that occurred in Randolph tonight," Gov. Sununu tweeted. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, & first responders who answered the call. State officials are on the scene & assisting as the situation develops."
Police say they're investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, with collision analysis and reconstruction teams work with local police and the Coos County Attorney's Office.
